About Terminal 1

United Airlines' primary O'Hare hub, spanning Concourses B and C with 52 gates. Also serves Lufthansa and All Nippon Airways. Designed by Helmut Jahn and built between 1985 and 1987, the terminal is known as "The Terminal for Tomorrow" for its curved glass structure. An underground tunnel links Concourses B and C, lit by a neon art installation. Terminal 1 connects to Terminals 2 and 3 by airside walkway, so passengers can reach either without leaving the secure area. It does not connect to Terminal 5, which sits apart on the far side of the airfield.
